Brief Description
The Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development has the mandate to develop, coordinate and monitor policy on violence against women. The Gender Department specifically deals with issues of Gender Based Violence and all its different forms. The Ministry is guided by regional and international instruments that speak to violence against women which the Country is a signatory to. These include the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), African Union Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development amongst many others.
